Hiatus Holidays
Welcome to the "Valley of Milk". Escape the commercial crowds of Gulmarg and experience Kashmir's most pristine, untouched meadow. Just a quick drive from Srinagar, Doodhpathri offers vast pine forests, crystal-clear glacial streams, and absolute serenity.
While Gulmarg and Pahalgam face immense over-tourism during the peak summer months, Doodhpathri remains a virgin sanctuary. It is an enormous, bowl-shaped meadow entirely surrounded by dense fir and pine forests, with the icy Shaliganga river cutting right through the middle.
Crucial Local Knowledge: There are virtually NO private hotels or massive restaurants here. It is a strictly preserved eco-zone. As Local Kashmir Experts, we highly recommend treating Doodhpathri as the ultimate luxury day-trip. We pack premium picnic hampers in our Innova Crystas and let you spend the afternoon relaxing by the river away from the chaos.
Legend says the famous Kashmiri saint, Sheikh ul Aalam Sheikh Noor din Noorani, prayed here. When he pricked the ground with his stick to search for water, milk flowed out instead. Hence the name "Doodhpathri" (Valley of Milk).
Located in the Budgam district at an elevation of 2,730 meters (8,957 ft). It is incredibly close to Srinagar (just 42 km). The landscape is characterized by sloping green pastures and the fast-flowing Shaliganga river.
Summers (May-Sept) are pleasantly cool and perfect for grazing and picnics. Winters (Dec-March) are incredibly harsh. Unlike Gulmarg, the road to Doodhpathri is not regularly cleared of snow, making it largely inaccessible during deep winter.

Gulmarg is hyper-commercialized. It has 5-star hotels, a massive Gondola, paved roads, and thousands of tourists daily. Doodhpathri is raw.
